The Partnership

 

An important component of the Event Management post graduate certificate program involves student participation in the creation, planning and execution of a themed event with funds raised going to the Ottawa Chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation.  Funds raised from this event will be used to grant wishes for children with life threatening/life limiting illnesses. Over the last three years, Event Management students have raised in excess of $500,000 for this organization and granted wishes for numerous children. These events have received positive attention within Ottawa. In fact, the faculty and students of the Events Management Program were awarded the Group Philanthropic Award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in the fall of 2010 for this work.

 

In fall of 2012, the Algonquin College School of Hospitality and Tourism reinforced the commitment to the partnership with the Children’s Wish Foundation with a media announcement stating Event Management students will continue to work with the charity towards a $1,000,000.00 goal in contributions.
